Wisconsin hires former Missouri head coach Robin Pingeton to lead women's basketball program

MADISON, Wis. (WFRV)—The Wisconsin women's basketball team has a new leader and voice. Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh announced the new head coach via a press release on Tuesday morning.

According to the release, former Missouri Tigers head coach Robin Pingeton is heading north from Columbia, Missouri, to Madison as she takes over the reins of the Badgers women's team.

Pingeton has coached for 30 years, the past 15 of which came with the Tigers, who went 250-218 under her leadership and developed a few WNBA draft picks, including Sophie Cunningham. She was also a Coach of the Year semi-finalist in 2017 and 2018.

Pingeton's teams overall have won 585 games, with 20 postseason appearances. Director of Athletics Chris McIntosh expressed excitement in the release of his latest hire

"I am extremely pleased that Robin will be joining the Wisconsin Athletics family," McIntosh said via the release. "She has Midwest roots and coaching experience and she and her family will fit right into our local community as well as our state."

Pingeton's statement expressed excitement and gratitude for the new opportunity, citing her experience in the Southeastern Conference as motivation to guide the Badgers to new heights.

"I am excited to get to Madison and get to work," Pingeton said via the release. "Relationships are very important to me. I appreciate the time I spent with Chris McIntosh and Marcus Sedberry. I can tell my value system aligns with the people at Wisconsin."

The news comes a few weeks after Marisa Mosehley resigned from her role as the head coach on March 9.
